HOKUSHIN means North Polestar in Japanese. The 16mm portable SC series made a very good reputation in Japan and some other countries, including the Netherlands and Germany, just after the CANARY manual threading model in 60s and 70s. Even in Germany, DEMOLUX has made SC-10 projectors under the ELMO Patents. SC-10 and 11 use the CIRCLOADING auto threading method along with the guide numbers (1-2-3) for completing the steps required, which is a unique system using a threading arm loads the film circularly.

Although they had made 16mm stationary projectors, too, they were not so popular like the EIKI and ELMO projectors in the world.

YOKOGAWA bought all rights of projectors with the same brand-name from HOKUSHIN ELECTRIC WORKS, LTD. (later HOKUSHIN PRECISION CO., LTD.) in Tokyo.
